This past weekend, some of the family and I drove down from Ventura to Los Angeles.
Drive Time: Gaffigan, David Perell, and Theme Time Radio Hour
On the drive down to LA, we listened to Jim Gaffigan’s new album, The Skinny, and on the way home we listened to the Questions episode of Bob Dylan’s Theme Time Radio Hour. While we were driving around, I finished the episode of David Perell’s How I Write with Steve Levitan.
Tilden Study Center, UCLA, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills
The purpose of the trip was to drop my son off at Tilden Study Center for a day of sports, study, prayer, fellowship, and In-N-Out. After we dropped him off, we drove around the UCLA campus and then through the Bel Air and Beverly Hills neighborhoods, just to take in the sights.
Grand Central Market and The Last Bookstore
We made our way to LA’s Grand Central Market, where my wife and daughter enjoyed some eggslut. My wife loves the Fairfax.
At another stall, I had a German breakfast sausage, which was OK, but that I mildly regretted. We had some donuts from the Donut Man, which never disappoints.
After eating, we walked to The Last Bookstore. I bought some books, including Thinking to Some Purpose.
Santa Monica: Aristeia, American Cinematheque, and Rosti Tuscan Kitchen
We drove to Santa Monica. My wife and daughter wanted to see a needlepoint place, Aristeia. After that, my daughter and I lounged a bit at the La La Land coffee place on Montana Avenue.
We lounged until 3:00, when the Aero Theater started showing Hitchcock’s North by Northwest.
When the movie was over, we ate at Rosti’s and whiled away the time until we could pick up my son at 8:00 PM.
