A week ago, the text for meditation in my Magnificat was from Newman. It encouraged me. Here’s the part that I liked the most:
God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
What is it in this quotation that I like?
- Particularity: I’m here for something specific.
- Personality: it’s my work, not someone else’s.
- Certainty (even if it’s an unknown certainty): it’s there, even if I don’t recognize it perfectly.
- Interpersonal Connectivity: I’m part of a web of people whom God cares for in a very particular way (back to particularity).
