As I’m writing this, I don’t feel like doing it. Part of me would rather be doing something else: watching TV or even reading a book. Anything other than putting words on a screen with my keyboard.
So why am I typing this, then? Why not go watch the next episode in that Netflix series?
Because this only takes 30 minutes. Really, typing this post will take less than 30 minutes, so I’ll probably end up doing something else, like editing a draft I’ve already started. But I’ll spend my 30 minutes in working on my writing.
The fact that it’s only 30 minutes makes it feel very manageable. Achievable. I can do this and, once I’ve done it, I know I’ll feel better for having done it. Then I can watch the Netflix show without feeling guilty that I’ve neglected something valuable and worthwhile.
If there’s something in your life that you want to do, do yourself a favor: make it manageable, so you can get it done even when you don’t feel like doing it.
